University of Manchester Hiking Club

We are one of the most active societies in the university, running hiking trips every weekend to the Lake District, Snowdonia, the Yorkshire Dales (by coach), and to the Peak District (by train). We organise walks for almost all abilities, from a relaxed walk up a scenic hillock to a 25km peak-bagging mission. We take care of all the navigation and route-planning – all you need is some basic equipment and enthusiasm.

We also run longer weekend trips and vacation trips, sometimes heading north to the Scottish Highlands.

The club is a great way to keep fit, meet interesting people and visit beautiful parts of the country, or even just to get out of the city for a day. When we're in Manchester, we organise weekly social events – last year's included indoor ice climbing, ceilidh dancing and a funk-soul extravaganza – and we always finish up in the pub!

Club members are entitled to a 15% discount at Cotswold, with a nearby branch on Oxford Road.

    Locations Wiki

For the last few months we have been building Wiki pages about all the locations that we visit on our hiking trips. Members have been busily adding to it and trying to make it as complete as possible. Of course it should never be complete, because anybody (yes, that means you) can add to it and help make it the most comprehensive database of hiking locations in the UK (and even the world).
